I am not an atheist or anything but I dont really like going to temples !! I cant wrap my head around the idea of going to a specific temple to worship god, attain his blessings and stuff maybe because since childhood I was taught god is everywhere Nature is god's creation and I firmly believe in that, But this trip changed my Mind.
A one day trip to Dehugaon made me realize that temples are not only about the stone Idols but about the atmosphere there as well . This scenic town of temples situated along the banks of holy Indrayani river was not only mesmerizing but had such good divine positive vibes that made my day. [I know this all sounds psychic but this is what i felt and I am still feeling] The temples in their own mysterious way soothes you, makes you feel positive and gives hope. Its kind of hard to explain it in words that is why I recommend everyone to visit this holy shektra
I am sure you all must have heard about Dehugaon located near dehuroad in between Talawade and Chakan, this village is the place from where the famous Wari to Pandharpur starts during the aashad month. Devotees from all around Maharashtra gather in lakhs to attend the waari during the June- July month. It is auspicious to visit this holy temple town, they say visiting the Vitthal Rukmini temple here, reading just a line of gatha written by Sant Tukaram and taking blessings from the river Indrayani is enough to attain Salvation.There are many more folklore, divine incidents and stories but they are better said by the guides available here standing in the premises of these holy temples.
Dehugaon has a number of temples situated next to each other and visiting all these temples in the order is part of the whole tour experience. The very first temple you see is the birthplace of sant Tukaram, the holy saint who made Dehu pure and wrote the famous gathas of vithhal. What's interesting is that this temple is actually maintained by the descendants of sant tukaram themselves!! Yes the 10, 11, 12, 13th generation of sant Tukaram's family stay here, take care of the temple premises and also tell you about his Life !!🤗
Next comes the main temple,this is the first temple in Maharashtra where both Vitthal and Rukmini idols are together, something not seen even in holy Pandharpur!! The temple is filled with divinity, mainly because the Idols situated here are not made by craftsmen but they materialized themselves IE they are Swayambu.
Apart from this, the temple also holds the divine gatha [the holy book of poems] written by sant Tukaram themselves in the premises. Literally you can see the stone slabs on which sant tukaram etched his abhangas for vitthal !! A 400 years old book is preserved there in excellent conditions !! Basically a piece of history is present in Dehugaon thats one more reason to come to Dehugaon
Now coming to a temple next to river means visiting the river banks obviously. With its fast flowing waters, cool breeze and the sound of abhangas drifting from the temple in the background, the river Indrayani hypnotizes you.
Enjoy more of this beautiful river by getting on one of the many boats available in the boat club here and go paddling or rowing

Next on the trip is the gatha mandir. This temple is recently renovated and is built on the exact place where indrayani devi came up to return the Gatha to sant tukaram!! The temple is calming and serene and is the perfect example of culture mixing with modern architecture!!
This white and pink temple has inner walls made up of marble and the poems or abhangas of sant tukaram are carved on the marble wall !! The double storey temple hosts a big statue of sant Tukaram and of vitthal rukmini. The ceiling of the temple is full of intricate paintings and the 7 avatars of sant tukaram are depicted here!! The temple is stunning as well as calming at the same time!! Like I said before there was this calmness, positivism in the atmosphere that I ended up spending an hour in the temple!!
Being this close to pcmc visit Dehugaon to get to know our roots , cultures traditions and rich heritage !! Its a must see place for you if u are having a bad day or bad week or just need some positivity and need to feel good!! 😊
